Marco Island Reef Project
You may have noticed a large number of pipes and construction off to the side of the Jolley Bridge. What you may not know it that quietly off the shores of Marco Island a new habitat is taking shape. What was once discarded debris will now become the largest artificial reef project in the western hemisphere. Once completed this project is expected to span a quarter mile by a quarter mile.
What benefits will this project bring? In addition to creating a home environment for countless species of marine life, this project is expected to bring a boom of tourism to Collier County. Divers from all over the world will visit our area to catch a glimpse of the wildlife that lives beneath the ocean’s surface on the newly formed reefs. It is also expected that we will become host to a number of sport fishing tournaments as well.
This in addition to Marco Island being named the #6 Island in the United States by TripAdvisor means that our little island is getting a lot of global attention.
